Home Care vs. Home Health Care: How can we help you?

What is Home Care?

Home care — sometimes called “in-home care” — provides nonmedical services at a senior’s home, for those who need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Care levels can vary based on specific needs, and services can span from weekly meal prep to incontinence help.

  • Home care aides can be hired privately or through agencies. Senior home care aides aren’t usually licensed to provide medical-specific services, but rather they help with many daily needs such as:

  • Cleaning and organizing a senior’s home

  • Transportation to appointments or errands

  • Assistance with ADLs, such as bathing or grooming

  • Medication management and reminders, rather than the direct administration of medication

What is Home Health Care?

Home health care is medical support provided by licensed professionals at a patient’s home. This type of care is usually prescribed by a doctor as part of a senior’s health care regimen.

Home health care can be arranged through home health agencies — or, in some cases, hospice agencies — and may include services such as:

  • Medical tests

  • Wound treatment

  • Monitoring of health status

  • Physical, speech, and occupational therapy

  • Administration of medications, IVs, or shots

Combining Home Care and Home Health Care Services

  • Families may find that one type of home-based care service doesn’t meet all the needs of a loved one. For example, a senior may be in a situation where they need medical services and treatments post-hospitalization, as well as support with ADLs and housekeeping. In that instance, it may be beneficial to hire both home health professionals for medical support and home care aides to assist with everyday tasks..

  • Our priority at HSH (Home Sweet Home Health Services), is continuity of care and clear communication between the Family, Client, Home Care Aids & Register Nurses; allowing transparency and consistency to best support our client’s needs and desires.
